The Apache Derby development community is pleased to announce its first release after being accepted into the Apache Incubator, Apache Derby 10.0.2.1. Derby can be downloaded from here.

Derby is a pure Java, standards-based relational database engine. Derby aims to be an easy to use solution for data management for software developers with zero administration for end users.

The release serves as a baseline for future development of Derby, and to allow users to begin using an official release. It also contains a number of bug fixes and other changes. See the CHANGES file in the distribution for a full list of changes.

Derby is an effort undergoing incubation at the Apache Software Foundation. Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and decision-making process have stabilised in a manner consistent with other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF.

The Apache Maven team is pleased to announce the Maven 1.0.2 release!

We recommend that all users upgrade to this release, in particular those using pre-1.0 betas or release candidates. Download from here. Please remember to check the MD5 sum or OpenPGP signature from the main site when downloading from a mirror.

Fixed bugs:

• Ensure that default properties (such as maven.repo.remote) are correctly overidden when inherited from a parent. Issue: MAVEN-1501.
• Allow SNAPSHOT as a version override. Issue: MAVEN-1511.
• Prevent "Response Content Length not known" warning. Issue: MAVEN-1428.
• Fail on 403 HTTP response to dependency download. Issue: MAVEN-1502.
• Now works on IBM JDK 1.3. Issue: MAVEN-1507.
• Don't download a dependency if there is a JAR override for it. Issue: MAVEN-1518. Thanks to Hardy Ferentschik.
• Works with JDK 1.5 without additional configuration.

The Apache Cocoon Community is proud to announce the new release of Apache Cocoon. This release is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0.

Apache Cocoon is a web development framework built around the concept of separation of concerns (that is: allowing people to do their job without having to step on each other toes) and component-oriented web RAD.

Cocoon implements these concepts around the notion of 'component pipelines' modelled after the 'process chain' concept where each worker specializes on a particular operation. This makes it possible to use a Lego(tm)-like approach in building web solutions where these components can be hooked together into pipelines without requiring further programming.

We like to think at Cocoon as "web glue" for your web application development needs. But most important, a glue that can keep concerns separate and allow parallel evolution of the two sides, improving development pace and reducing the chance of conflicts.

The DB Torque team is pleased to announce the release of DB Torque Version 3.1.1, a maintenance release of the DB Torque 3.1 branch.

Main new feature of this version is the first official release of the maven-torque-plugin which allows Java and SQL source code creation with Torque through integration with Apache Maven.

Apache Forrest is pleased to release the new version: apache-forrest-0.6. Source and binary distributions are available here.

Apache Forrest is an XML standards-oriented documentation framework based upon Apache Cocoon, providing XSLT stylesheets and schemas, images and other resources. Forrest uses these to render the source content into a website via command-line, robot, or dynamic application.

The Apache Software Foundation and the The Apache HTTP Server Project are pleased to announce the release of version 2.0.52 of the Apache HTTP Server ("Apache"). This Announcement notes the significant changes in 2.0.52 as compared to 2.0.51.

This version of Apache is principally a bug fix release. Of particular note is that 2.0.52 addresses one new security related flaw introduced in 2.0.51: The Apache HTTP Server Project would like to thank Rici Lake for identification and a proposed fix of this flaw.

This release is compatible with modules compiled for 2.0.42 and later versions. We consider this release to be the best version of Apache available and encourage users of all prior versions to upgrade.

Apache 2.0 offers numerous enhancements, improvements, and performance boosts over the 1.3 codebase. For an overview of new features introduced after 1.3 please see here.

When upgrading or installing this version of Apache, please keep in mind the following: If you intend to use Apache with one of the threaded MPMs, you must ensure that the modules (and the libraries they depend on) that you will be using are thread-safe. Please contact the vendors of these modules to obtain this information.

The Apache Software Foundation is pleased to announce the release of SpamAssassin 3.0. SpamAssassin 3.0 contains a number of new technologies designed to protect against the changing techniques used by spammers. This is the first SpamAssassin release as an Apache Software Foundation project and under the Apache License. The release is available from the Apache SpamAssassin web site via the Apache mirror network.

SpamAssassin 3.0 delivers many new features including support for sender authentication using the Sender Policy Framework (SPF), checking for web links of known spam advertisers, a modular plugin architecture, improved SQL database support for storing user data in server installations, and improved email classification.

SpamAssassin's practical multi-technique approach, modularity, and extensibility continue to give it an advantage over other anti-spam systems. Due to these advantages, SpamAssassin is widely used in all aspects of email management. You can readily find SpamAssassin in use in both email clients and servers, on many different operating systems, filtering incoming as well as outgoing email, and implementing a very broad range of policy actions. These installations include service providers, businesses, not-for-profit and educational organizations, and end-user systems. SpamAssassin also forms the basis for numerous commercial anti-spam products available on the market today.

The Apache Struts team is pleased to announce the release of Struts 1.2.4 for General Availability. This release includes significant new functionality, as well as numerous fixes for bugs which were reported against the previous release, and supersedes the earlier 1.1 version as the latest official release of Struts from The Apache Software Foundation.

The Apache DB/OJB team would like to announce the release of Apache OJB 1.0.1. This is primarily a bug fix release with a couple performance improvements and the addition of one service api element. For more details see the release notes.

ObJectRelationalBridge (OJB) is an object-relational mapping tool that allows transparent persistence for java objects against relational databases.

The Apache Struts team is extremely proud to announce the availability of Struts 1.2.2. This release represents the first "official" release available for General Availability since Struts 1.1.

IBM has submitted a proposal to the Apache DB project for a Java-based package to be called 'Derby'. The seed code will come from the current IBM Cloudscape product. The Apache DB project has voted to sponsor Derby through the incubator. For more details see the general incubator list.

The Apache WebServices project is proud to announce that JaxMe 0.3 has been released. JaxMe is an open source implementation of JAXB, the Java specification for Java/XML binding. The 0.3 release contains bug fixs and enhancements and is the first release made by JaxMe since it has graduated to the WebServices project.

Apache Ant 1.6.2 is now available for download. The release fixes a large number of bugs and adds a number of features which were asked for by users on Bugzilla.

Maven is a project management and project comprehension tool. Maven is based on the concept of a project object model: builds, documentation creation, site publication, and distribution publication are all controlled from the project object model. Maven also provides tools to create source metrics, change logs based directly on source repository, and source cross-references.

The latest plugin releases are also included, with bug fixes and some new features.

The Apache Software Foundation and The Apache HTTP Server Project are pleased to announce the release of version 2.0.50 of the Apache HTTP Server ("Apache").

This version of Apache is principally a bug fix release. A summary of the bug fixes is given at the end of this document. Of particular note is that 2.0.50 addresses two security vulnerabilities:

• A remotely triggered memory leak in http header parsing can allow a denial of service attack due to excessive memory consumption. CAN-2004-0493
• Fixes a mod_ssl buffer overflow in the FakeBasicAuth code for a (trusted) client certificate subject DN which exceeds 6K in length. CAN-2004-0488

This release is compatible with modules compiled for 2.0.42 and later versions. We consider this release to be the best version of Apache available and encourage users of all prior versions to upgrade.
